The photo shows Leon the S.U.R.E. team coach and Paul Smith the club chair presenting a cheque to Gail Wills of SURE for the money raised by Rhode Lane Wanderers canal walk and litter pick in May. A total of £1,195 was raised on Just Giving.
The walk took place on the first May bank holiday 2026.
Children aged 3yrs to 13yrs walked from the YMCA Bridgwater to the Boatyard at Maunsell Lock with their football coaches and parents.
They also collected 10 bin bags of litter on the walk making the path a more pleasant experience for other users on the path that day. Well done to all of Rhode Lane Wanderers and thank you for having the S.U.R.E. logo as the charity you support on the team shirt.
Rhode Lane Wanderers first year ended in July 2025 with 45 members and just 4 teams with no spare children as reserves. They start 2026/27 season with 170 children aged 7yrs to 17 yrs and 9 teams with plenty of reserves. Sam Smith also runs Sunday mornings 5yrs to 7yrs FREE of charge fun football for children who want to kick a ball. He has enough children attending this to form teams so they are playing real early roots football.
